Text: COON VALLEY, Wis. — Army Specialist Steven Gary Erickson, 20, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse as a result of an automobile accident.

Steve was born June 22, 1984, in La Crosse to Gary and Jean (Gabrielson) Erickson. He graduated from Westby High School in 2002. He entered the U.S. Army in October 2002 and was currently with the 84th Engineering Battalion stationed at Fort Richardson at Anchorage, Ala.

Steve served in the Iraq war from January 2004 to January 2005. He was very proud to be a part of the military. Steve was a member of Westby United Methodist Church, Coon Valley American Legion Post 116 and Westby VFW. He loved life and lived it one day at a time. He had many friends who admired him and he admired them also.

He will be greatly missed.Surviving are his father, Gary Erickson of Coon Valley; his mother, Jean Erickson and her fiancé, Randy Ebben, of Waupaca, Wis.; one brother, Kyle Erickson of Coon Valley; one sister, Casey (John) Schmit of Rockland, Wis.; three nephews he adored, Jonathon, Aventen and J.J., all of Rockland, Wis.; grandparents, Delaine Erickson of Coon Valley and Gene and Anita Gabrielson of Viroqua, Wis.; and uncles, Jay and Tony Gabrielson of Westby, Wis., Rex (Laurie) Gabrielson of Coon Valley and "Chub" Erickson of La Crosse.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Andrew Erickson; one uncle, Scott Gabrielson; and one great-uncle, Eugene Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Pastor George Shick will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. and at the church Monday from noon until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
