From the Antisthenes blog:

Mikhail "Gorby" Gorbachev and William "Taco" Sullivan

Gorbachev and Sullivan

In what many historian have cited as an "uncanny" twist of fate. Two former almost identical looking dictators found to have come from similar backgrounds also ended their respective careers with unexpected public criticism.

Mikhail Gerveevich "Gorby" Gorbachev was the Soviet Union Dictator from 1985 into the early 1990's. He is best known as a reformer and for the terms "glastnos" (openness) and "perestroika" (reform).

William "Taco" Sullivan was the Connecticut Supreme Court Chief Justice and Dictator in the early 2000's and is best known for ruling the State's judicial department with an "iron fist." He also "reformed" the Judicial Branch into the ultimate branch of the Connecticut government.

my addition:

Former Connecticut Chief Justice's "Prostitute Comment" to a Connecticut Representative, a Minority woman, asking Sullivan a question. What!!!???

Rep. Minnie Gonzalez of Hartford, CT [webpage]

Justice Sullivan answers Minnie Gonzalez live at a Hartford Capitol Judiciary Committee hearing on CT-N [click here, then click "watch now"] Feb. 21, 2007, allow media player to open, grab the slide on the bottom and go to about 3:45:30 for the beginning of the interview.

At about 3:52:00 answers a question using a prostitute as an example. Gonzalez was respectful and careful in asking the former Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court.

Sullivan being a White Male answering a Latino woman representing a 72% Latino and very poor district in Hartford, Connecticut, referring to a prostitute. This is beyond inflammatory and racist and represents what is most wrong with the Connecticut Judicial System and the whole judicial branch.

Sullivan said he would be a prostitute too in testimony, wow!

Sullivan also brings to light a special program for lawyers when they have drug and alcohol problems. They get special “soft” treatment as compared to everyone else. Too often in Connecticut the real prostitutes are Judges, Prosecutors, and Lawyers, their misconduct is open, blatant, and in your face.

Sullivan tried to legislate and rule from the bench.

The “punishment” for Sullivan isn’t enough.

If Rockville Connecticut Judge Jonathan J. Kaplan had sawed my leg off with a rusty saw, not using anesthesia, he would have done less malicious damage to me and my family. Rogue Judges should not have qualified immunity.

Judges should be arrested, hauled away in handcuffs, and face trial like the rest of us when they break the law.

Connecticut State Senator Gomes of Bridgeport at about 4:00:00 refers to the “prostitute” comments and brings up interesting points. We are at the mercy of judge in courts, this rogue judge should be at the mercy of the legislature. Arrogance of Judges should not be treated as Royalty.

Lawlor, McDonald, Kissel, and other lawyers on the Judiciary Committee are lawyers, and how they react to the public and others, they are double dipping, there is supposed to be separation of powers, and as lawyers they are cheerleaders for the Judicial Branch and it is just plain unethical and sleazy that they claim to represent those that elected them into office first. Don’t elect lawyers! [click here] for list of Judiciary Committee members

There would not be across the board corruption and bribe taking of elected officials nationwide and police misconduct would not be such a national embarassment if the court system were reformed and if there was Civilian Oversight of the Courts, Cops, the Prison System, DCF, DYSS, DMR, and in investigating and seeing that elected and non-elected officials are adequately punished and then removed for breaches.

Sullivan should be prosecuted for contempt of the Legislature and the people that elect officials.

We the people don't have representative government if judges such as Sullivan operate as they have and face no real punishment when they so flagrantly violate the public's trust.

I respect your opinion Ken, but Rep. Gonzalez is one of the very few legislators who will return calls and/or emails and who genuinely is looking to help people who in a lot of cases aren't even her constituents. Ken please email me, I would like to talk to you on another subject and even talk to you on the phone.
